China Beijing Opera begins tour next month

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians will get to watch the world-famous China Beijing Opera during its nationwide tour starting next month. 

The troupe of 48 members will present renditions of Chinese classic fables and legends such as Water Margin, Legend of the White Snake and Journey to the West with Azerbaijani-Iranian-born Englishman Ghaffar Pourazar as the legendary Monkey King. 

China Beijing Opera is part of Beijing Opera Academy, which is among the largest performing arts groups in China.  

The tour will be from May 2 to June 7, kicking off with a charity premiere at Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur before proceeding to Malacca, Johor Baru, Ipoh, Penang and Sibu in Sarawak. 

The Istana Budaya shows are priced at RM160, RM120, RM80 and RM50 for evening shows and RM120, RM80, RM50 and RM30 for matinees. Tickets may be booked or bought through Ticketcharge by calling 03-7726 2002
