JELI: State Wildlife and National Park Department rangers caught a tiger at Kampung Kolam Air Panas making it the seventh catch in this district famous for roaming tigers.

Its deputy director Mohamad Ismail said the female tiger, weighing some 100kg, was said to be between four and five years old.

He said the tiger, with ring marks on one of it’s paws suggesting it was once caught in wild boar traps laid by villagers, was captured in a trap laid by the rangers at 5am yesterday.

He said the tiger was believed to be part of a group of tigers roaming the Boreh Sungai Long forest reserve.

“Based on the scars on the paws, this tiger escaped from one the traps laid by the villagers to catch wild boar within the Kampung Kolam Air Panas area.

“The trap set up by the department rangers was laid following a report on March 11 by a farmer who claimed that a tiger tried to devour one of his cattle,” he added.
