'Proton 'deal 'should remain'

AMMAN: Malaysia is hoping that Iraq will honour a deal for 5,000 Proton cars made under the oil for food programme. 

Malaysian Ambassador to Iraq Abdul Latif Awang said Proton was due to deliver the cars to Baghdad in April but with the war on in Iraq, this now appears unlikely due to the uncertainties as well as the high cost of insurance and freight as a result of the risks.
