Second team of medics off to Jordan

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Medical Relief Society (Mercy Malaysia) sent its second team of two doctors and a nurse to Jordan yesterday to carry out humanitarian work in Iraq.

Paediatric surgeon Dr Lai Fui Boon, physician Dr Jeffrey Abu Hassan and nurse Mathina Bee Gulam Mydin will join Mercy’s international relief manager Anita Ahmad and volunteer Dr Zalina Nusi who arrived in Amman on March 15.

HUMANITARIAN MISSION: Dr Jeffrey (left), Dr Jemilah, Mathina Bee and Dr Lai having a chat before the team departed from KL Sentral Monday.

Mercy Malaysia president Datuk Dr Jemilah Mahmood, who was at the KL Sentral to see the trio off, said the situation was still uncertain in Iraq, as relief organisations had yet to detect the path of the refugees' flow.

The volunteers will be there for two to three weeks.
