Azizan consistently inconsistent, says Anwar's counsel

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s appeal against his conviction for sodomy began at the Court of Appeal with the defence counsel attacking the prosecution’s star witness Azizan Abu Bakar’s credibility. 

Counsel Christopher Fernando told the three-man appellate bench that the trial judge was wrong in regarding Azizan as a credible, reliable and honest witness as the latter’s evidence was “riddled with major inconsistencies and outright lies”. He said Azizan had given different versions of what happened to him; by initially denying he was sodomised by Anwar and later changed his stance when prompted by the prosecution.
