TAMPIN: An elderly couple lost their jewellery to two bogus policemen who seized their valuables purportedly to investigate a counterfeit money and fake jewellery scam here on Friday.
The bogus officers managed to convince a 74-year-old woman and her 75-year-old bedridden husband to surrender their jewellery worth RM3,100 when they went to their home in Kampung Baru Paya Lebar, Air Kuning Selatan, at about 11.30am.
OCPD Supt Abdul Wahab Azizul Hassan said the two men told the victims they had received information that the couple possessed counterfeit money and fake jewellery.
The woman later lodged a police report after suspecting something amiss.
Supt Abdul Wahab said the two men were believed to have struck earlier in the month by robbing a 65-year-old woman and her partially blind brother of RM1,250 and jewellery worth RM5,000 in a similar manner in Kampung Tenai, Gemencheh on March 11.
“In both incidents, the two men were in civilian clothing and did not produce any authority card,” he said.
Supt Abdul Wahab added that the public should call the district police at 06-441-1221 to verify the identity of police personnel.
