KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia called on the international community to continue condemning the US-led war against Iraq, which is against the wishes of the majority of the countries in the world.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said a coalition of some 30 countries in the war did not represent the views of the world.“United Nations members like France, Russia and China do not support the war. I think that a great of majority of the people in the world cannot be making a mistake (in not wanting a war). We do not see the justification,” he added.

Umno Youth slammed the Bush administration for declaring war on Iraq, saying “it is a trick to dominate their interests in the country.”

“It is more of an arrogant action by an administration to bully its victims. We highly condemn the cruel action of the Bush administration over this,” said its chief Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein.

MCA Youth international affairs bureau chief Fam Lee Ee expressed similar sentiments, saying that the US had disregarded all international laws.

“The US speaks of the rule of law but they have shown contempt for all laws,” he added.Fam also said the US had invaded for oil – an act similar to the old colonialists.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz described the United States and Britain as “rogue nations.”“No country in the world, no matter how big, has any right to demand a regime change anywhere and determine the destiny and future of any country,” she added.

PAS acting president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang urged all Malaysian, especially Muslims to remain calm and not to overreact.“Any aggression should be met with justice and reaction should not go overboard,” he said, adding that PAS would unite with the Government and other political parties to counter the negative effects of the war.DAP chairman Lim Kit Siang said the war against Iraq had set the US against the UN, international law and world opinion and had grave consequences for the global community for the next few decades.

“The world map is being rewritten unilaterally by the world’s only hyperpower,” he said, urging Parliament to adjourn its current business and proceed to an emergency motion to convey a unanimous all-party condemnation of the war.

Parti Keadilan Nasional and PRM said the illegal war on Iraq had put the world on the brink of disaster. “The US has promoted lawlessness and the world community must react with right-mindedness,” they said in a statement.

Aliran said the US has defied international law and order, adding that the country has scoffed at world opinion.
