Rulers Council endorses Govt plan on SAR

KUALA LUMPUR: The Council of Rulers, at their 196th meeting, have endorsed the proposed solution by the Government concerning issues on Islamic education by taking into consideration all the memoranda presented to the Rulers. 

“All relevant matters are being studied by a Special Committee chaired by Tan Sri Murad Mohd Noor,” according to a statement issued by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, Engku Tan Sri Ibrahim Engku Ngah at the conclusion of the two-day meeting yesterday.  

The statement said that before the commencement of the meeting, Education Minister Tan Sri Musa Mohamad gave the Rulers a special briefing on the latest developments pertaining to Sekolah Agama Rakyat (SAR). 

“The minister had disclosed during the briefing that the Government had no intention of closing SAR as long as the schools were properly run,” the statement said. 

All Rulers except for the Sultan of Johor, who was represented by the Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ibrahim Ismail Ibni Sultan Iskandar, attended the meeting. The Sultan of Kedah chaired the meeting. 

All the Yang di-Pertuas Negri also attended the meeting. 

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail was accompanied by Acting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.– Bernama
