PENANG: Hard work is still the key to success, according to several top SPM scorers and high achievers from SMK Perempuan Methodist yesterday.

Yong Sze Mei, who admits to occasionally burning the midnight oil, obtained 11 straight 1As.

She aspires to be a doctor like her father and hopes to get a scholarship to further her studies.

Sze Mei said she spent six hours daily on weekdays and eight hours during weekends on her studies.

For Stephanie Tan Yen Lynn, studying five days a week and burning the midnight oil helped her to achieve the good results.

Yen Lynn, who obtained 10 As, also attributed her success to her mother, who is also the school's senior assistant and her father, a retired teacher.

Identical twins Liew Huei Ling and Huei Ping, who obtained seven 1As and two 2As and five 1As and two 2As respectively, hopes to become computer engineers someday.

The elder twin Huei Ling said they intended to further their studies in the United States.

The school's headmistress Wong Soon Kee said there were three students with 11 1As, 10 with 10 As, three with 9 As and three with 8 As.

She added that the teamwork and guidance from teachers had contributed to the students’ good results.
