PENANG: Hard work and perseverance pays off for SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth student Tan Tyng Hwey when she scored straight As for last year's SPM examination.

Tyng Hwey, 18, who scored 12As with 10A1s and 2A2s, said: “I study every day and paid attention in class.”

Tyng Hwey, who is an only child, said she wanted to make her mother, a factory operator, proud of her with her academic achievements as she had raised her single-handedly.

“I am going to apply for scholarship to study either medicine or pharmacy,” she said, adding that she would go to Form Six if she failed to get one.

Apart from Tyng Hwey, 10 other students scored 11As and 18 scored 10As.
