Lai Chow Yee with his results.

SMK Kuching High’s Lai Chow Yee did his school proud when he emerged as the sole Sarawakian to score 14As in the SPM.

He attributed his success to hard work, being attentive in class and to clarifying with teachers on any doubts in his studies.

“l plan to further my studies in Britain,” he said yesterday.

Agreeing with Lai is Freda Tan who scored 10 1As.

“l don’t have any secrets for my success. l spend about three hours a day doing my homework,” said the Kuching SMK Batu Lintang student.

Tan said the examination results came as a pleasant surprise as she did not expect to do so well, especially in the Chinese subject.

Three other candidates, all from Sibu, obtained the second best results of 12As. They are Wong Kim Hook (SMK Sacred Heart), Stella Ting Wan Hua (SMK Methodist) and Tiong Kim Tim (SMK St Elizabeth).

A total of 32,637 candidates in the state sat for the examination.
