Month-long gala for coronation

KAJANG: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo yesterday directed all buildings and business premises in the state to fly the state flag for a month from March 6 to mark the coronation and installation of His Royal Highness Sharafuddin Idris Shah as the ninth Sultan of Selangor Darul Ehsan on March 8.

The last such coronation and installation of the Sultan was 40 years ago when AlMarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah became the eight Sultan of Selangor Darul Ehsan.

During the month-long celebrations there would be 24 official events, he said after chairing the Selangor State Executive Council meeting here.

Khir said the coronation ceremony would begin at the Balairung Seri (Throne Room) of Istana Alam Shah, Klang, at 9am.

On March 6, the “Letak Kerja” ceremony will begin at the Balairung Seri at 8.30am and followed by the “Bersiram Tabal” ceremony at Padang Mahkota, Istana Alam Shah, at 3.30pm.

The following day, the Sultan will visit the Royal Mausoleum and attend Friday prayers at Masjid Sultan Suleiman, Klang, before going through the “Bersiram tabal” ceremony.

On March 8, the Sultan will inspect the Guard of Honour at Padang Mahkota and this will be followed by the coronation and installation ceremony.

On March 9 a royal state banquet will be held at the Royal Banquet Hall of Istana Alam Shah. On March 17 an investiture will take place at the Balairung Seri.

On March 12, the Sultan will attend a meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur.

Other events include a water carnival, concerts, football tournament for the Sultan of Selangor Gold Cup, polo, launching of the Raja Muda of Selangor Foundation, exhibitions and opening of mosques. – Bernama
