TELUK INTAN: Knight in shining armour – that would probably describe M. Suress Kumar who rode a horse to meet his bride here on Friday.

The 33-year-old Malaysia Airlines steward rode an eight-year-old brown stallion named El-Cabalero for one kilometre from the Sri Muniswarar Temple in Jalan Maharaja Lela to the Sri Anandha Nadaraja Temple in Jalan Syed Abu Bakar to meet his colleague, G. Rathipriya, 22.

Suress was all dressed in the traditional “Shirvani” costume which comes with a turban.

Members of his entourage, all dressed in resplendent traditional Indian costumes and accompanied by musicians, caught the attention of the people in this town.

“This is how the bridegroom goes to meet his bride in northern India,” Suress said.

GALLANT GROOM: Suress arriving at the Sri Anandha Nadaraja Temple in Teluk Intan with his entourage on Friday to get married to Rathipriya.

Suress, who had courted Rathipriya for three years, said that he wanted something different for his wedding which was held on Valentine’s Day.

Rathipriya said her wedding would always be remembered by the people of Teluk Intan becaus e this was the first time someone had followed the tradition of coming to meet the bride on a horse.

“They do this in India but here it is common for people to get married in hotels,” she said.
