SEPANG: Malaysia’s newest celebrity, Miss Chinese International 2003 Rachel Tan Weng Kim, was a picture of vitality as she stepped out from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport after her long flight from Hong Kong to be greeted by her family.
She was all smiles and eagerly answered questions from her family members and friends as well as reporters who waited for her return.
“I am still on cloud nine, this has been one of the best chapters in my life,” she said.
The 20-year-old law student beat 19 other finalists in the Hong Kong TVB-hosted pageant and had spent the Chinese New Year in Hong Kong making public appearances and “live” television show.
She won the Miss Malaysia Chinese International in November last year, which was organised by Astro Wah Lai Toi.
Hosting her return yesterday was a team from Astro, who took Weng Kim and her family for a yee sang dinner at the Pan Pacific Hotel KLIA.
She immediately looked for laksa as she wanted something “hot”, saying that she missed spicy food during her two-week trip.
“I was very busy this past two weeks and could hardly spend time with my family who accompanied me there. However, when they left a day earlier, I could not wait to join them back and was already missing them,” she said.
Apart from the programmes lined up for her for the next year as the new beauty queen, Weng Kim would also get tutoring to prepare her to complete her law degree.
