KOTA BARU: A pen-like pistol, believed to have an effective range of up to 20m, has been brought into the country, said Kelantan CID chief Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Jani.
He said a 37-year-old trader found the pen-like pistol and two bullets encased in lipstick-like canisters while inspecting his wares on Saturday.
“He received his stock of shoes from a Pengkalan Chepa-based company on Monday, but only inspected them five days later.
“Upon making the discovery, he surrendered the items to the Bunut Susu police station,” ACP Rahim told reporters here yesterday.
The pistol, measuring 11.4cm, is made of an unknown metal, and looks like a fountain pen while the metal bullet casings, with Korean inscriptions on them, are 6.4cm long.
ACP Rahim said a user would have to remove the plastic cap from the bullet casing before screwing the latter onto one end of the pistol.
The weapon is ready for use after the tiny trigger is cocked.
“We believe that this is the first time that police have come across this type of firearm.
“We will send the weapon for tests to determine its serviceability and the bullets’ calibre. We believe that this weapon is effective up to a range of 20m,” ACP Rahim added.
