KUALA LUMPUR: Police will distribute Chinese New Year crime prevention forms to the residents in Cheras, to combat crime in the area during the coming festive season.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Noor Masdar said those leaving their houses empty during the festive holidays could fill up the forms and hand them to the police.

“We will step up patrols and visit these houses more frequently to prevent criminals from breaking into the premises,” he said, adding the public could also obtain the forms from police stations or police beat bases in the area.

He said 40 break-ins were reported in the district over the past three weeks.

In an unrelated incident in Brickfields, an alert neighbour came forward to provide the police with a lead on suspects in a house break-in case in Sri Petaling that ultimately led to an arrest.

The neighbour, who spotted two suspicious-looking men, noted the motorcycle plate number and passed the information to the police.

It is learnt that the suspect, together with his accomplice, entered the house, tied up a housewife, her daughter and a maid before robbing them of more than RM200 in various currencies and a cellular phone.
