BALING: Police arrested two suspects in the past few days in connection with the murder of a 69-year-old housewife in Malau early this month.

One of the suspects, a 53-year-old farmer from Permatang Kerai Besar, Kepala Batas, was apprehended in an orchard at Bukit Rawa, Malau, at 3.30am on Jan 22.

The other suspect, a 24-year-old mechanic, was picked up from his house at Felda Gunung Bongsu, Mahang, Kedah, at 4.30pm the next day.

Baling OCPD Supt Hassan Ismail said the suspects were remanded for two weeks, adding that the farmer had four previous convictions.

The suspects, said to have stolen jewellery worth RM15,000 from the woman, had allegedly sold them at jewellery shops in Lunas, Kulim and Butterworth, he said.

Police have recovered most of the jewellery.

Jam Ahmad, whose hands were tied with a piece of cloth during the burglary in Bukit Rawa, Malau, on Jan 8, was found dead on her bed.

Supt Hassan said police were also looking for one Baharudin Ali, 31, whose last known address was 11, Jalan Imam, Kampung Melayu Pandan, Johor Baru, to help in investigations.

Those with information should contact Baling CID chief Asst Supt Ramli Abdul Razak or investigation officer Chief Insp Mohd Azmi Awang Lah at 04-4701222.
