Among those scheduled to perform are top Malaysian artistes such as Sheila Majid, Anuar Zain, Dayang Nurfaizah and Mas Idayu, and their counterparts from Indonesia such as Elvy Sukaesih, Ike Nurjanah, Meggy Z and Thomas Djorghi.
With the theme Always Together in Peace and Harmony, the concert is aimed at entertaining audiences both in Malaysia and Indonesia as it will be telecast in both countries. It will be telecast live on TPI station in Indonesia while Astro and RTM will screen the concert at a later date.
The concert is organised by PT Cipta TPI Jakarta, Indonesia, in collaboration with Genting Group of Companies. TPI is one of 11 free television stations in Indonesia and controls about 60% of viewership.
Concert production director Sarah Major said the concerthad come about during the Anugerah Dangdut TPI (The Best of Dangdut Awards) 2002 held in September last year in Indonesia at which top dangdut singers were honoured for their contributions.
“But the three-hour Semalam Di Malaysia concert will be more than just a dangdut concert as there will Anuar Zain, Sheila Majid and Dayang Nurfaizah to sing their own hits from different genres such as jazz and R&B,” she told reporters on Wednesday.
Admission to the concert is free and passes can be obtained from all television and radio stations in the Klang Valley or from the box office counter at the concert venue.
“This is the first time that an Indonesian television station is holding a concert overseas and it is part of the cultural exchange between our countries. We also hope that dangdut music will strengthen the existing friendship between the two countries,” Major added.
