Two soldiers killed as truck plunges into ravine

KOTA KINABALU: Two soldiers were killed and three others injured when the truck they were travelling in plunged into a 15m-deep ravine along KM26 of the Lahad Datu-Kunak Road, about 200km from here, on Friday. 

The deceased were identified as Lans Koperal Jamaludin Mustafa of Manjung, Perak, and Lans Koperal Ku Mohamad Fuad Ku Shaari from Kedah. 

Their bodies were flown back to their home states yesterday. 

The injured – Staff Sjn Salleh Mustafa, Lans Koperal Zabidi Zahar and Koperal Nazaruddin Bahar – were reported to be in stable condition at the Tawau general hospital. 

The soldiers, based at an army camp near Tawau, were travelling back from Lahad Datu when the accident happened. 

Motorists passing by went to their aid while others called the Fire and Rescue Services Department for help.
