KLANG: The Year of the Goat will see MCA members working hard to raise funds for Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) without neglecting its responsibility towards the financial needs of Chinese independent schools, said MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.

“Utar and Chinese independent schools are important agendas for the party. But the two sectors need heavy funding and they turn to the community for support.

“Rest assured that the fund-raising will not ‘eat’ into the funds raised for independent schools,” said Ong yesterday.

Ong said it was crucial to get Utar up and running because it served an important need of the country with quality education at affordable fees.

“It is also MCA’s way of showing appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his strong support for the establishment of Utar,” said Ong after attending the ‘eye opening’ ceremony of the four lions and a dragon belonging to the cultural troupe of the Chung Hwa independent school here.

Ong also urged the people to attend the national Chinese New Year open house in Petaling Jaya on Feb 8.
