SHAH ALAM: Selangor will be hosting the national Chinese New Year open house in Petaling Jaya on Feb 8 with a fireworks display and entertainment by local artistes and a popular Hong Kong singer.

Declining to reveal the identity of the Hong Kong singer, Selangor executive councillor Datuk Lum Weng Keong said: “The singer will join local artistes in entertaining the crowd.”

“We are prepared to host 200,000 guests and about 2,000 VIPs for the occasion,” Lum told reporters yesterday.

Lum said the open house celebration – a collaboration between the state government and the Culture, Arts and Tourism Ministry – would be held at Dataran Petaling Jaya (Padang Timur) in Petaling Jaya, starting from 6pm.

The organisers had also invited about 400 foreign writers to witness the event and some 1,000 under-privileged children will also be joining in the festivity.

Selangor’s Khun Loke Association Lion Dance group, which ranked third in the recent world lion dance competition, will put up a 20-minute performance.
