PENANG: Education Minister Tan Sri Musa Mohamad has expressed admiration for the Chinese for their generosity in donating money to Chinese schools.

“They give generously to build or expand one school and then donate again to another school,'' he said yesterday when opening the RM1.4mil new block of SJK (C) Kwang Hwa in Sungai Nibong here.

He said the Chinese were steadfast in the belief that “it was all right for them to be poor materially as long as their children do not have a poor education.”

Earlier, at the ground-breaking ceremony of the SJK (C) Min Sin in Relau, Musa praised all the communities for emphasising their children's education.

“They donate generously and then make sure that the school is academically strong.

“This kind of spirit is not present in schools which are fully funded by the Government,'' he added.
