BAHAU: A 15-year-old student who was supposed to help his 13-year-old neighbour with her homework but ended up having sex with her, has been arrested for statutory rape at his home in Taman Tijuara here.

The suspect, who had offered to tutor his schoolmate and was allowed to do so by the girl's mother, was said to have started his “lessons” in the girl's room at 9pm on Tuesday.

It is learnt that the 39-year-old mother went to sleep believing that the two were busy studying.

Later, she was awakened by strange noises coming from her daughter’s room and when she peeped in at 2.30am, she saw the suspect zipping up his pants.

The enraged mother interrogated the girl who admitted they had been reading pornographic materials before having sex .

The woman later accompanied her daughter to lodge a police report the same day.

State Deputy CID Chief Supt Abd Razak Abd Ghani said police arrested the suspect under Section 376 of the Penal Code yesterday.

The suspect, he said, was detained for having sexual intercourse with an under-aged girl although the suspectclaimed it was consensual.

In an unrelated case, a 39-year-old man was arrested by Kuala Pilah police yesterday after he stole RM430 from the donation box of the Yam Tuan Raden mosque here.

Supt Abdul Razak said the suspect entered the mosque on the pretext of performing morning prayers and broke open the box using a screwdriver when no one was around.

Supt Abd Razak added that the police detained the suspect not far from the mosque at 4.50am.
