KUCHING: Sarawak is going all out to attract more Singaporean tourists with the launch of a special package for only S$299 (RM628).

The three-day two-night package is inclusive of Singapore-Kuching return air fare, hotel accommodation, complimentary breakfast and airport transfer.

State Tourism Minister Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg, who launched the package Shiok Sarawak in Singapore last week, said yesterday it was priced the same as the packages offered for Singaporeans to visit Bali or Phuket.

Statistics showed that almost 32,400 Singaporeans visited the state in 2001, and 26,500 during the first 10 months of last year.

Johari said the new package was first mooted by the private sector about eight years ago.

He said the state government had asked Malaysian Airline to use bigger aircraft to serve the Singapore-Kuching sector to cater for an expected influx of Singaporeans. Currently MAS uses B737 aircraft.
