IPOH: The MCA has extended an open invitation to the public to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) main campus in Kampar on Sunday.

Perak MCA chairman Datuk Ong Ka Chuan said those who did not receive official invitations were also welcome to attend the ceremony as the university “belongs to everyone.”

He said a giant LCD screen measuring 8.4m by 9m would be put up at the site.

“The event proceedings, together with a video-clip on the progress of the country, will be projected on this screen,” he said yesterday after chairing a meeting to discuss preparations for the event.

Themed “Culture of Gratitude,” the event is also being held in honour of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who will be performing the ground-breaking ceremony.

“We want to thank the Prime Minister for Utar as well as for leading and giving confidence to the country and people during these 21 years.

“We thank him for having a liberal view on education and for guiding us towards meeting the new challenges of globalisation,” said Ong.
