KUALA LUMPUR: Italian Ambassador Anacleto Felicani will lead the European Union (EU) ambassadors to Wisma Putra to discuss preparations for the coming EU-Asean foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels.
Wisma Putra’s Director-General of Asean Datuk Kamal Ismaun will receive the 15 ambassadors on Saturday. It will be Felicani’s first assignment as the EU group of ambassadors chairman here since taking over from Danish Ambassador Lasse Reimann on Jan 1.
Italy is chairing the six-month EU presidency here on behalf of Greece, which does not maintain a diplomatic mission in Malaysia.
Felicani said the EU-Asean meeting in Brussels on Jan 27 and 28 would be important, as various topical issues and matters of interest to both groupings would be discussed.
“I would like to thank my Danish counterpart here for all his endeavours as head of the EU group of ambassadors. We work as a team,” he added after being briefed by Reimann at the latter’s residence here.
Felicani also said that the Speaker of the Italian Parliament, Pier Ferdinando Casini, would arrive here for a two-day visit on Tuesday.
He said Casini, who was elected Speaker in 2001, would meet with Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Michael Chen and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tun Mohamed Zahir Ismail.
