Four men rob car laden with gold and jewellery

BATU PAHAT: A car laden with gold and jewellery for goldsmith shops in nearby districts was intercepted by four robbers, who took away two bags of gold weighing some 10kg, near the Ayer Hitam toll plaza here yesterday. 

In the 4.45pm incident, the robbers in two cars, armed with a pistol fired three shots after blocking the gold laden car. 

Police could only confirm that the driver of the gold laden car had serious head injuries. 

State Police Chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mukhtar Ismail said there were three people travelling in the gold laden Honda Accord but only the driver was injured while the other two escaped unharmed. 

“The victim and his colleagues were on their rounds to distribute gold and jewellery to goldsmith shops in Kluang and Batu Pahat when the robbers struck,” he said when contacted. 

The injured driver from Kuala Lumpur had been warded into the district hospital and under close medical observation.
