Three killed, one hurt in car-trailer collision

KUANTAN: Three people were killed and one was seriously injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a trailer in Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Lumpur early yesterday morning. 

State Traffic and Public Order chief Supt Baharuddin Sarbaini said the dead were from Tanah Merah, Kelantan. 

They were car driver Che Mohamad Saiful Hisham, 21, from Kampung Sarak and passengers Rafizal Ismail, 20, from Kampung Belimbing and Radzani Ilias, 21, from Bukit Tanau. 

Another passenger, Wan Mohamad Faizal Wan Ismail of Kampung Kerdap, Rantau Panjang, who sustained head injuries, was warded at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here, said Supt Baharuddin. 

He said during the 2.15am accident at Km102 Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Lumpur in Maran, the car was believed to have skidded and hit the side kerb. 

“Mohamad Saiful, then tried to get back onto the road but the car went to the other side of the road and collided with a trailer,” he added. 

The three died on the spot and it took firemen about an hour to extricate their bodies, he said. 

In another accident in Sungai Ular here on Monday, Supt Baharuddin said a 22-year-old-motorcyclist, Elhamni Mohamad Ghazali, was killed when the machine he was on collided with a trailer. 

The accident occurred at about 4.30pm when the trailer driver tried to avoid a car but collided with the motorcyclist. 

The victim was rushed to the hospital but he died there.
