UiTM graduate chooses to becomes high-rise window cleaner

Nurul Nadirah Shamsul Laiani, 25, of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Shah Alam, was considered crazy by her friends when she became a window cleaner for high-rise buildings.  "Anyone can wash a window, but not everyone could wash windows while being suspended hundreds metre (above ground)," she said. The pint-size lady said she was often teased by her friends for being petite but the laughing point motivated her to take up a male-dominated job. "Some of my friends think what I am doing is crazy, life threatening and not suitable for women," she said. However, she said safety and teamwork were the main priorities in her workplace. Her most unforgettable experience was hanging up the 200kg Jalur Gemilang at the Mara building for Merdeka celebrations in August. The highest building she had cleaned was level 38 of Wisma Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and she was once suspended for six hours working in a hot day.
