Comedian and filmmaker Adflin Shauki said he will stop his boycott against the 28th Malaysian Film Festival (FFM28) since there are now two categories to give recognition to all local films. The language segregation issue was diffused after the organisers and the Communications and Multimedia Ministry opened up the "Best National Film" category to all Malaysian films regardless of language, and created a new award, "Best Film in the National Language". Afdlin said this was a positive move from Finas and FFM and it was an essential change for the film industry. However, he did not view this move as a personal victory. "This is for the film industry itself, its excellence and to be more sensitive to current times," he said. I am a Malay and I would produce films and give priority to the Malay language. But the Chinese and Indians would make their films in their own language. It would be weird and odd if actors only spoke Malay in every scene because this is not the reality in Malaysia," he explained. He said it was more important to have constructive discussions on industry-related issues than to have award ceremonies.
