No ban on loudspeakers for azan in Rawang surau, clarifies Jais

The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has clarified that it did not issue any order to a surau in Rawang to ban the use of loudspeakers during the azan prayers. Jais director Datuk Haris Kasim explained that a letter that was issued to the Surau Al Falal in Kampung Baru Kundang was with regards to lowering the volume of the loudspeakers during ceramah. He said the order was given following public complaints about the misuse of loudspeakers which had caused disturbance to the local community. "No problem with azan prayers. The people were complaining about ceramah and programmes held there. “Residents said the surau has six speakers including those outside the building," Haris said. Jais had previously advised the surau management to turn down the volume of the speakers and limit their use indoors for ceramah before issuing them a warning letter. He said the issue could have been solved if the surau was willing to cooperate and respect the neighbourhood.
