> Kelantan to introduce dress code for staff at fast food outlets
The Kelantan state government is planning to enforce a dress code for those working in fast food outlets starting January next year. The dress code will focus on decency, modesty and appropriateness. State exco member Datuk Abdul Fattah Mahmood said the state government had met with stakeholders regarding the plan. He said some premises have already begun implementing the proposed rules, although they will only come into force next year. “Praise to God, they have welcomed the state government’s intention in requiring all staff to dress appropriately, which includes long sleeves and headscarves for women,” he was quoted as saying.
> Report: IS publishes its first Malay newspaper
The Islamic State (IS) terror group has reportedly published a Malay-language newspaper as part of efforts to spread its ideology and recruit new members. The first edition of “Al-Fatihin” was launched in the southern Philippines on June 20 before its contents were circulated online and shared on social media. Besides Malaysians and Indonesians, the 20-page newspaper is believed to be targeting individuals who are able to read Malay, such as those from Brunei, Singapore, and the south of Thailand. According to security sources, Furat Media, a media affiliate of IS, is behind the publication and funding of Al-Fatihin. “The use of the Malay language also shows that IS is giving a warning that this region (Southeast Asia) is under its watch,” said the source. Bukit Aman’s Counter-Terrorism Division principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has declined to comment on the matter as police are still conducting investigations.
