The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) has advised flamboyant millionaire Datuk Seri Dr Hasmiza Othman, against promoting her cosmetic company at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kamil 1 in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. NUTP president Hashim Adnan said school is a place for students to learn and the cosmetic queen, who is widely known as Dr Vida, should not use it as a venue to promote Vida Beauty Sdn Bhd. He was commenting on an invitation letter issued by the school, which encouraged parents to wear pink for a parent-teacher meeting. The letter which was signed by the school headmistress had also asked the adults to help bring in a crowd for the product promotion event. The headmistress Che Samsudin Che Amat confirmed that the school had sent out the letter.
> Nur Damia back to school
Standard One pupil, Nur Damia Syifa Abdullah, whose mother pulled her out from school due to financial hardship, has resumed her studies in SK Bukit Merah in Bagan Serai, Perak. It was reported previously that the child was pulled out from SK Tebuk Pancur in Semanggol after only three weeks of schooling because her mother could not afford it. The girl was able to resume schooling after being transferred to SK Bukit Merah, as it is located 3km away from her family's rented house, compared with 10km to her old school. "I felt great and excited to be able to study in my new school because before this I was forced to stop halfway (travelling to school)," the seven-year-old girl said. The Islamic Religious Council and Malay Customs Perak Darul Ridzuan (MAIPk) has also approved monthly aid of RM500 after the family's plight was highlighted in the news on Feb 1.
