Foreign masseuses working in Kuala Lumpur's Bukit Bintang area can earn RM8,000 a month, making it a preferred occupation compared with jobs such as domestic helpers and construction workers. Despite getting caught once in a reflexology centre raid, an Indonesian woman was adamant about continuing her trade due to the lucrative income promised by her employer. The 30-year-old woman said she earned an average of RM6,000 a month for her shift, without any off days. "Massaging requires a lot of energy but not as much as working as maids or at construction sites, which pay much less. Once, my pay cheque exceeded RM8,000. That was like six to eight times of a domestic helper," she said. She said other than the high pay, she was also tied to being a masseuse because her employer had paid for the bail to release her from the authorities.
>Gas cylinder explosion injures boy
A nine-year-old boy suffered 18% burn on his body last Friday due to a gas cylinder explosion in his house in Jementah, Segamat. Muhammad Rezamien Shah Rizam had gone to the kitchen on getting the smell of gas. He sustained burn injuries on both his hands and legs. He was home alone as his father was away running a food stall business. His mother said she left the house for 10 minutes to send her eldest son to school. When she returned, she found Muhammad Rezamien screaming in pain while two elderly neighbours were helping c calm him down. According to neighbours, they heard a loud explosion and suspected it was caused by gas leakage. The mother said she was certain she had turned off the gas earlier. The boy received treatment at the Segamat Hospital and is reportedly traumatised by the incident.
