The barbershop in a van

AN innovative man has started a “portable barber shop” business to support family. Former religious teacher Abd Malik Zakaria, 46, transformed his hair-cutting service by moving his barbershop into an 11-seater van, in Pendang, Alor Setar. The father of six said the idea struck him when he was thinking about ways to earn more to support his family. "I used to operate a barber shop in Kampung Gajah Mati but found it was even better for me to reach out to customers on the move," he said. He invested RM15,000 to recondition the van and made sure the air-conditioner was cool enough for the comfort of his customers.

> Cops on hunt for woman who abused step-granddaughter
POLICE are looking for a 27-year-old woman who allegedly abused her four-year-old step-granddaughter at their house in Setiu, Kuala Terengganu. The child's ordeal was exposed when she was brought to hospital for treatment and medical officers found bruises all over her face and body. Her uncle, who was told she was injured in a fall, had sent her to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah on Monday as requested by her grandfather. Medical officers, however, became suspicious and lodged a police report after determining that the bruises and marks were old wounds. According to Setiu district police, the grandfather had directed his nephew to send the girl to hospital because he could no longer stand his wife's abusive treatment of his grandchild. The woman, meanwhile, has gone missing and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
