Jismani Hassan and his son were surprised by the sight of a white mousedeer at the Bukit Tekoh forest reserve in Langkawi while the duo were in the woods to hunt for honey. Recalling the experience, the 41-year-old man said his heart was pounding with excitement when he saw the mousedeer quenching thirst at the river bank. With the help from his son, they set up a fishing net and caught the animal which was named as "Awang Putih". Jismani said it reminded him of Parameswara and the historical origins of Malacca in the 14th century. A white mousedeer had kicked one of Parameswara's hunting dogs and the Palembang prince decided to built Malacca there. Jismani said he will be keeping Awang Putih though he was offered RM1,000 to sell it.
