> Malacca bans sale of hard liquor at 7-11 outlets
The Malacca state government decided in a state exco meeting on Wednesday to ban the sale of hard liquor in 7-11 convenient stores which were located in Malay-Muslim majority areas. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the racial composition of the particular area would be scrutinised before the ban was enforced. "For example, if the distance between two 7-11 stores has a 90% Malay population, then it is not suitable to sell hard liquor in that particular stores," he said. Non-Muslim majority areas such as Malim would not be affected by the ban, he added. Only those with high alcohol content such as whisky are categorised as hard liquor. Beer does not fall under that category.
