Monsoons to hit again until Saturday


The Meteorological Department has forecast monsoon rains and strong winds in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor starting Wednesday until Saturday. Kudat, Sandakan and Tawau in Sabah will also be affected by bad weather phenomenon. The department has warned those living in flood-prone areas and out to sea to be alert. It has forecast strong wind up to 40-50kmph and giant waves as high as 3.5m.

> Man who vandalised two temples suspected to be mentally ill
A 29-year-old man nabbed for allegedly vandalising two temples in Bukit Mertajam and Tasek Gelugor last week is suspected of being mentally unstable. Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the suspect would be referred to a doctor for diagnosis. According to him, the man was suffering from depression due to a broken engagement in June last year. He has no criminal record and is unemployed. On the morning of Jan 2, the man was seen dashing in to a temple in Kampung Pokok Machang with a knife. A day earlier, he had vandalised another temple in Bukit Mertajam.
