A STAGGERING increase of 260% in unsold food at Ramadan bazaars has been documented in the initial two weeks of fasting compared with the entirety of the previous year’s month-long period.

The Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi), which began the MYSaveFood programme to reduce food waste, says during Ramadan in 2023, it recorded saving 25,000kg of unsold food, from which about 1,000kg a day was collected from bazaars.
