SELF-ASSESSMENT is crucial for individual growth – and the same applies at the institutional level.
Recognising this, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) has put in place measures to ensure sustained excellence in meeting standards and driving innovation in sustainable quality assurance.
The varsity’s efforts were recently celebrated at the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) Awards 2025.
Emerging as the overall winner of the Higher Education Provider Excellence Award for Internal Quality Assurance (IQA), UTeM stood out among universities nationwide.
In addition, the varsity ranked among the top three universities for excellence in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and the top five for excellence in lifelong learning.
UTeM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Massila Kamalrudin said the varsity consistently upholds high-prestige internal quality management, a robust quality assurance system, and benchmarking processes that involve comparisons with best practices to enhance programme quality.
“The outcome of these benchmarking processes – comprising strengths and opportunities for improvement – serves as input to refine institutional goals, strategic plans, and the quality assurance system.
“At the same time, UTeM’s leadership plays a key role in fostering a quality culture, ensuring the implementation of sound policies and procedures while inspiring staff and students to achieve excellence,” she said in a press release dated Aug 12.
At the award ceremony held on Aug 11, UTeM deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Dr Zahriladha Zakaria received the award from Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Also present to celebrate the win were UTeM board of directors chairman Datuk Dr Husaini Omar and Faculty of Information and Communications Technology dean Prof Dr Mohd Sanusi Azmi.
