Sensory therapy room for Selayang school

Campaigns on financial literacy, environmental sustainability programmes, and the establishment of a vocational entrepreneurial café to enhance students’ vocational skills and financial independence will be introduced at SMK Selayang Bharu.

These are some of the plans outlined under Affin Hwang Investment Bank Berhad’s “Adopt A School” initiative, which kicked off with the launch of a sensory therapy room at the school in Batu Caves on May 16.

The sensory therapy room, designed specifically for students under the Education Ministry’s Special Education Integrated Programme (PPKI), is a key component of the first phase of the project.

Equipped with specialised lighting, interactive learning tools and a calming atmosphere, the room is intended to help students improve focus, build confidence, and benefit from positive interventions.

Some 146 students will gain from this facility, signifying a major milestone in their educational journey.

SMK Selayang Bharu principal Budiman Menteri said the future of the school’s children “begins today”.

With continued support, they will be empowered to realise their full potential, he added.

“We are delighted to witness the transformation of SMK Selayang Bharu into a more inclusive and skill-oriented institution.

“The commitment shown by the school’s leadership and staff towards these students is truly commendable,” he said in a press release.

Every student, regardless of background or needs, deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe and supportive environment, said Affin Hwang chief executive officer Nurjesmi Mohd Nashir.

He said the sensory therapy room, which is part of the bank’s efforts to deliver inclusive educational access, is aimed at improving learning outcomes and emotional development of the school’s students.

“This is only the beginning of our long-term partnership with the school.

“We are committed to enhancing educational opportunities for students with special needs and equipping them with the tools to thrive.

“Through this initiative, we aim to nurture greater self-confidence and empowerment among these students,” he said, adding that the initiative is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to provide meaningful support to students with special needs, ensuring they have access to a conducive and enriching learning environment.

Driven by a vision of sustainable impact and empathy-led innovation, the initiative extends beyond infrastructure development to foster educational equity by providing customised resources that empower both students and educators, the press release read.
