Current SOP to prevent exam paper leaks at ‘best level’, says Education DG

JOHOR BARU: The Education Ministry will stick to its existing standard operating procedure to avoid Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination paper leaks.

Education director-general Azman Adnan reiterated that the ministry had dismissed claims that the 2024 SPM History examination paper was leaked earlier.

“When the term ‘leaked’ was used, it referred to the whole examination paper being exposed but our investigations found there was no element of leakage.

“Our existing SOP is at its best level and we will continue complying with it,” Azman told reporters when asked to comment about the matter after launching the Early Schooling Aid (BAP) at the Johor Education Department here on Monday (Jan 13).

Previously, claims that students had shared questions and answers for both Papers 1 and 2 of the 2024 SPM History a few days before the exam went viral on social media.

Last Thursday (Jan 9), the ministry dismissed the claims, clarifying that the claims did not classify as a ‘leak’ based on the procedures set by the Examination Board for managing such incidents and ensuring security.

Separately, Azman said a total of 5.2 million students nationwide will benefit from the BAP amounting to RM791.2mil. The disbursement of the aid by the ministry has started on Monday (Jan 13).

“This includes RM87.2mil for 581,463 Year One to Form Six students studying in 1,193 schools in Johor.

“This is the government’s 13th year giving out the financial assistance and this year, we have extended the aid to some 100,000 Form Six students nationwide for the first time.

“We hope this helps to lighten the burden of families with children starting the new school year come Feb 17,” he added.
