Sunway TES students Tan Yi Xuan, Queenie Chan and Mandy Lai, who have collectively won the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) World Prize nine times, were honoured at the ICAEW Global Accountant Scholarship award presentation ceremony in Subang Jaya recently.

The event, held on Sept 13, saw a total of 69 recipients awarded scholarships.

Since 2013, 854 scholarships have been disbursed with Sunway TES waiving a total of RM34mil in tuition fees for the award.

A total of 327 scholars have since graduated as chartered accountants, with 80% of them working at “Big Five” accounting firms.

The event also saw Sunway TES Malaysia and ICAEW renewing their existing collaboration, with Sunway TES Iskandar College starting a partnership with the ICAEW for five years.

ICAEW UK chief executive officer Michael Izza said the professional qualification helps position talents as strategic leaders of fundamental issues facing the world, including sustainability, trust, and digital transformation.

“ICAEW chartered accountants are strategic leaders and trusted advisers who help businesses thrive. They guide them in tackling global issues and making the most of opportunities, such as technological advances, as well as contributing to developments in environmental, social and governance (ESG),” he said in a press release.
