Absenteeism of teachers without reason is a taboo in the teaching profession.
In school, form teachers are required to take the attendance of their students daily. And students must provide valid reasons for not being present the previous day.
Alas, when teachers go AWOL (absence without leave) or missing without any reason whatsoever, it portrays a bad image for all their fellow teachers.
Teachers have to be reminded that they are role models in school. Students look up to them and try to emulate all the good traits of their mentors.
If a teacher needs to be absent, he or she must discuss the matter with the school authorities so that an amicable solution is reached.
Parents send their children to school with full confidence in the hope that they will get a good education.
Teachers, on their part, need to fulfil their duties as educators and impart knowledge, wisdom and discipline to their students.
They should be impartial when teaching their students. Each and every student should be treated fairly. Most importantly, teachers must show both passion and compassion when carrying out their duties.
As teachers, you have to work your socks off in school so that when you punch your card and clock out, you will feel a sense of satisfaction, knowing that you have done your best for the day.
The lovely feeling of contentment will show on your face as you drive home from school.
Teachers need to get their priorities as educators right.
All personal issues need to be raised and resolved through the proper channels. And the relevant authorities, on their part, must tackle these cases in a humane manner.
