Get an all-round education

The White Canvas Gallery is an exhibition gallery for FDBE students to showcase their projects.

THE Faculty of Design and Built Environment (FDBE) at First City University College is reputed at offering an all-round education to young and aspiring designers.

With more than two decades of excellence in offering the best of British design education, through previous UK-franchised degree partnerships, First City UC has contextualised this excellence to meet local industry needs and expectations.

FDBE students have an extra edge as they are given every opportunity to experiment and explore their creativity and potential, right from the start of the programme.

FDBE has made this possible by providing students with all the facilities and resources for them to learn and grow.

Besides the modern and well equipped studios, labs and equipment, which include 3D printers, laser cutters, vacuum forming machines and the iMac Lab, with industry-relevant software, FDBE takes it up a notch with its Creative Stove.

The Creative Stove serves as a commercial outlet for students to nurture entrepreneurship. There is also the White Canvas Gallery which is an exhibition space for students to showcase their projects.

FDBE Dean Assistant Professor Chua Huwi Huwi takes pride in the fact that the faculty has strong industry links, which facilitates the process for industry-based projects to be engaged by its students.

“Industry-based projects allow the students to apply their knowledge and skills to actual industrial needs identified by the industry partners themselves. Such projects create valuable experiences for the students,” she says.

FDBE students have the unique advantage of being able to showcase their skills and projects in the annual graduation showcase series called Sequence and Momentum.

These events provide a platform for students to display their creativity and innovation to industry professionals and potential employers.

The fact that students can produce industry-relevant products and are sought-after by the industry, even before their graduation, demonstrates the excellence of FDBE’s curriculum and teaching methodology.

As a result, FDBE graduates are highly regarded by the industry and are often in demand by employers.

An all-round design education produces “all-round” students and graduates.

FDBE students have an exemplary track record in coming up with award-winning designs and projects – winning numerous awards and accolades locally and internationally.

FDBE graduates are also well positioned globally as successful professionals, entrepreneurs and industry award winners.

First City UC’s June intake is now in progress.
