THE 13th International Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Engineering Conference 2020 (EnCon 2020) marked a groundbreaking event as the convention was held online, from start to finish.
Themed “Empowering Industry and Transforming Society through Engineering, Technology and Management”, the flagship international conference hosted by the varsity’s Faculty of Engineering was held on Oct 27 and 28.
Unimas deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim said, despite adjusting to “new norms”, the conference still acted as a medium to build networking and collaboration efforts between academic and industrial professionals for the benefit and betterment of society.
Although held online, the two-day conference received an overwhelming response from the public.
According to its organising chairperson Dr Ting Sim Nee, the conference featured more than 120 technical papers with about 300 registered participants.
The conference also had five special industry tracks and 10 technical presentation tracks which brought together research topics and industrial experience with regard to the latest developments in science, engineering and technology.
This year’s edition of the conference held by the university was the largest by far.
It was supported by the Sarawak state government and was co-organised by the Institute of Engineers Malaysia, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Institute of Science and Technology India, A Community-Centred Educational Model for Developing Social Resilience and Geomineral Science Department.
