Methodist College Kuala Lumpur recently celebrated its 37th anniversary.

On this note, a well-known stalwart of education – Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) – recently celebrated its 37th anniversary.

MCKL has seen many of its students graduating from its programmes, namely Cambridge A-Level (CAL); Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT); American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP); Diploma in Early Childhood Education; Diploma in Social Work; CAT and ACCA with great achievements.

The college is proud of its students’ successes, enabling them to kickstart their higher education journey well and leading them to a great career.

MCKL has a consistent track record, achieving 100% passing rate for CAL due to a dedicated teaching team.

Many of its students won Cambridge Awards for the Top of the World and Top in Malaysia.

In 2019,46% of students achieved 3As and above, 26 Top in the World, 10 Top in the Country and 2 Best across Three for the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award.

MCKL has exclusive partnerships with several universities, both locally and abroad providing scholarships to MCKL alumni.

Recently, Tan Tai Lon became the fourth MCKL alumnus in the last 10 years to receive the Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship to further his degree at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, US.

Apart from Tan, many MCKL alumni have joined prestigious universities around the world such as Kim Minseo at the University of Cambridge, Wilfred Ang at the University of Warwick, Angeline Juventia at London School of Economics, Joshua Liew at the University of Nottingham Malaysia, Kim Daye at the University of Hong Kong, and Jonathan Kong at RWTH Aachen University Germany.

This year, AUSMAT at MCKL will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. Over the last 19 years, seeing students being placed into their university of choice has been very fulfilling. Last year 40% of MCKL students achieved ATAR 80 and above.

Hannah Cheah was awarded Winner of Subject Certificate of Excellence for Mathematics Applications subject in 2019.

Hannah Cheah Li-An was awarded Winner of Subject Certificate of Excellence for Mathematics Applications subject in 2019. She is currently studying at the University of New South Wales.

Her coursemates joining other top Australian universities are Poh Yang Yi at Monash University Australia, and Manett Kaur Gill at Australian National University.

Seeing many of its Diploma in Early Childhood Education graduates educating future generations is a great legacy of MCKL.

Fifteen years since the birth of Diploma in Early Childhood Education at MCKL, it has transformed from traditional teaching to a blended approach.

There are 11 transfer students who graduated in 2019 and 2020 with First-Class Honours Degree from its partner institution – Institutes of Technology Tralee, Ireland.

The students are Beatrice Han En Ping, Foong Le Qing, Grace Ling En Yun, Yap Wei Rou, Denise Thean Pui Yan, Lee Sher Lin, Tan Li Tong, Samantha Ang Shun Ya, Lim Rong Shuen, Ong Xin Yi and Judy Liew Yu Jing.

ADTP at MCKL is notable for its flexibility whereby students are exposed to a wide range of studies across different disciplines.

Students are given the opportunity to explore various fields of study before they transfer to the US.

MCKL has 52 partner universities, four of which offer exclusive scholarships to MCKL’s ADTP students.

Ninety per cent of its ADTP students transfer to one of the partner universities, with 70% receiving scholarships.

Luke Kok Tee Xuan, one of the ADTP@MCKL alumni who graduated from Purdue University, landed a job at one of the top tech companies in the US and stated that MCKL provided him a strong foundation to transition to higher education in the US.

ACCA has recently granted MCKL the Platinum Approved Learning Partner status. The labour of its lecturers and students has come to fruition, as this is the highest status achievable by an institution from this accounting body.

MCKL ACCA students have consistently achieved passing rates that surpass world standards. Ang Guo Weng is a testament, having made Top in the World for Maintaining Financial Records and Foundations in Taxation.

Diploma in Social Work is the latest addition to MCKL’s programme. MCKL is the first private college to offer it, and this programme is fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Its first batch of students will be graduating in the upcoming graduation and awards ceremony.
