FOLLOWING the success of their first virtual upskilling programme for youths, StartupMalaysia will be having more SPARK-X sessions this month. The dates for the free three-day course will be announced soon.
The programme held via Zoom, sponsored by Malaysia Venture Capital Management Berhad (Mavcap), provides young people with the necessary skill sets to navigate an uncertain future brought about by Covid-19.
The first session was held from May 6 to 8. The other session was held at the end of June.
A total of 30 participants from diverse backgrounds, regions and experience, participated in the recently concluded sessions.
Working in teams of three, they presented their ideas and completed websites to a panel of judges, which was all done virtually.
The programme was aimed at equipping participants with skills in three key areas – design thinking, website building, and communication and digital marketing with social media.
Mavcap acting chief executive officer Shahril Anas said these areas are particularly relevant and timely during the global pandemic, which has seen digital solutions and innovative businesses come to the forefront in a very significant way.
“These valuable skills will be greatly beneficial in increasing their employability. They can build on the basics they learnt to grow their capabilities over time,” he said, adding that the skills are ideal for those interested in starting their own business as they would need marketing platforms like a website and social media.
He said participants can also use the knowledge gained to provide basic website management services to small businesses.
This will help youngsters supplement their income during this challenging period.
SPARK-X is open to all Malaysian citizens aged between 18 to 25 years old, regardless of employment status.
Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers and higher education institution students are also welcome to take part.
Seats are limited for each session.
