Celebrating AISM’s 20 years of excellence with 20 bursaries

EVER wanted the best education available in Malaysia for your child but do not have the means to afford it?

Though education is compulsory for all, there is a percentage of young students who do not have such basic access, what more a wholesome and well-rounded educational experience at an international school.

This year, as Australian International School Malaysia (AISM) celebrates its 20th anniversary, it is also awarding 20 bursaries to the brightest and most deserving students.

Committed to guiding students to achieve their full potential and make a difference in the world, AISM is offering a bursary of a 100% application fee waiver, 20% tuition fee and admission fee waiver (terms and conditions apply).

Known as the most experienced international school in Malaysia that offers a full Australian curriculum, outstanding middle school students (Year 5 to 9) now have the opportunity to join AISM this year or early next year.

Founded in 2000, AISM started with only two students and five staff members and has now grown to around 500 students of over 30 nationalities and more than 120 staff members today.

AISM is also the first certified institution in the world using the Visible Learning approach for its teachers and students, alongside the Australian curriculum.

An evidence-based approach to teaching and learning, researched and developed by Professor John Hattie of the University of Melbourne, Visible Learning strategies have influenced teaching practices and formed the basis of teacher training courses for many years in schools from New Zealand to Scandinavia and the United States.

This approach enables teachers to focus their efforts on teaching strategies that have the greatest effect on student academic outcomes and achievements.

In addition, the internationally recognised Australian curriculum is also based on a 50/50 assessment model that cultivates 21st-century skills and develops well-rounded global citizens.

With technology incorporated in the learning environment, AISM students are digitally fluent as it is a core learning objective in all academic areas and they learn it in a way that is relevant to each subject.

“Besides celebrating AISM’s 20 years in Malaysia, the school would like to provide Australian education opportunities to all-rounded performers who will add and enrich our school, ” said AISM principal Liam King.

Prior to his appointment, King was the deputy principal at Kingswood College in Melbourne, Australia. Other positions held by him include principal at Stamford American International School and deputy principal at the Australian International School, both in Singapore.

On why students should choose AISM, King explained: “The uniqueness of the Australian curriculum prepares young learners to be future well-rounded global citizens and creates a direct pathway to Australian universities for students to further their studies.

“Many schools are still using the traditional approach when it comes to teaching and learning, without applying any creative thinking in the classrooms. As an educator myself, I feel it is our core responsibility to produce the best possible learning environment to get students excited throughout their education journey.”

Other notable AISM accreditations and memberships include five-star excellence by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Council of International Schools (CIS), New South Wales Education Standards Authority and Australian International Schools Association.

The school also features open and flexible learning spaces that take learning beyond the classroom, as well as purpose-built rooms for dance, drama, music, orchestra, and even a black box theatre.

Sprawling over 3ha of green space, the school offers primary and secondary education on the same campus to its students of different nationalities, located only 20km away from central Kuala Lumpur.

AISM students get to participate in athletics, team sports, swimming, robotics, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), forensic science, chess, and many other clubs, providing more than 70 co-curricular options.

Well-rounded students who have excellent academic achievements and outstanding leadership skills are encouraged to apply and pursue their educational aspirations with AISM today. Bursary applications will close on July 31.
