Getting the best head-start for a successful career in business

The Henley Business School at the Malaysian campus of the renowned University of Reading encompasses an environment not only conducive to deep study but also one that reflects the calibre of the education within.

THE business world is a fast-paced one where wide-ranging business knowledge, acumen and technical skills are of the utmost importance in addition to other essential skills such as leadership and communication skills.

The corporate and entrepreneurial world is not only exciting but one where possibilities for recognition, success and profit are abundant. Business powers the economy, and those who want to be a part of it find that knowledge is power.

Getting a head-start in life in order to fully succeed in business, accounting, finance and real estate begins with a solid educational foundation. More importantly, obtaining an education from a recognised institution can give you an advantage above others.

The renowned Henley Business School at the University of Reading’s international branch campus in Johor, Malaysia is fully-equipped to ensure its graduates are armed with the same calibre as that of a prestigious UK business degree.

At the Henley Business School, students benefit from the best of both worlds: the opportunity to study for a respected, esteemed degree that carried the same weight as the business degree awarded at the University of Reading’s UK campus, but with the greater affordability specially- designed for its Malaysian campus, located in Educity in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

Mastering real-world business and finance

As real-world business encompasses many components, the Henley Business School has a wide range of degree courses to cover the gamut of business sectors.

For instance, for students looking to forge a career in accounting and finance, Henley partners with the globally-recognised Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) to produce a unique programme called the Henley-ICAEW Programme, or HIP. Through HIP, students can find themselves fast-tracked to a professional chartered accountancy qualification with ICAEW within as short a time span as two years after graduation.

HIP graduates complete the course armed with a BSc Accounting and Finance but also with a slew of certificates such as the ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB), among others. The Business and Finance Professional or BFP designation can be appended to their names when they begin working as professionals, for that added recognition.

One of the most beneficial and unique aspects of the HIP is the full 12-month industry placement for HIP students during the third year, where students have the chance to fully absorb corporate-world experiences and lessons in one of the numerous large professional services firms.

Compete alongside the best

If being a part of the dynamic and competitive world of financial services is on your list of goals, then Henley’s BSc in Finance and Business Management is a degree option worth considering. For starters, a state-of-the-art Financial Dealing room is available to students at which students can develop their financial trading skills utilising the same software and systems used by experienced traders globally.

While immersed in the finance and business management course, students learn from a broad spectrum of financial topics that includes international financial accounting, corporate finance, derivatives and securities, among others. But that is not all – as many experienced professionals will tell you, business also involves knowing the core fundamentals of marketing, international business and organisational behaviour, which means students understand the different parts and systems that inhabit many organisations.

And for those intending to prepare themselves to sit for an exam with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute, Henley is recognised as an affiliated university with the CFA institute; students benefit from this affiliation.

Real estate is no longer perceived as a sluggish sector; real estate is currently the world’s largest asset class, which has resulted in a resurgence in demand for qualified real estate professionals. Financial acumen as well sound business knowledge is useful in this sector as the demand for these qualified professionals is for multiple sub-sectors such as real estate investment, asset management, property management, valuation and consulting. Students at Henley will graduate well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills should they wish to pursue a career in real estate, with Henley’s flagship programme the BSc Real Estate.

The key benefit of this programme is its sole standing as the only programme that has provisional recognition from multiple bodies such as The Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents Malaysia, The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and many more.

Another advantage of opting for this course is the fact that Henley maintains close ties with industry partners in real estate – many students in this BSc Real Estate course often find themselves the recipients of job offers before graduation.

Getting there

Students wishing to enrol in Henley Business School after SPM and IGCSE can do so by registering for the university’s International Foundation Programme (IFP) which allows them to progress directly to undergraduate degree programmes at Henley; they can also choose which campus – UK or Malaysia – at which to study.

IFP intakes are conducted in April and September.

The alternative is for students to apply directly for the undergraduate programmes – the next intake being September -- after A-Levels, UEC or after acquiring a recognised foundation or suitable qualification.
